My first time posting here so forgive my sloppiness. Just a heads up if you didn't know sprint has updated their native navi software from 2.1 (i think) to 2.8 Shocked. Haven't gotten the chance to try it out yet so if someone can update and take a drive to see how it performs let us know. My moment has CL14 so not sure if that makes a difference or not just launch sprint navi and you'll get the upgrade message.

No?  Even now I don't see it say that anywhere.  Where does it say "Premium" on yours?

A little update:

After browsing the Sprint Community forums, it appears that "Premium" is supposed to be at the top of the Home Screen for Sprint Navi.  *shrug*

I've tried reverting back to v2.1, rebooting, re-downloading the v2.8 update, re-installing that, and rebooting once again, but still no luck with it showing "Premium."  I do, however, notice the difference in UI and such from what it looked like under v2.1.  The splash screen also says "V 2.8" now.

One other thing I noticed was that some people were saying that they no longer have to call in an address when choosing the "Speak It" option (under the "Drive To" choices); that the app would use speech recognition to figure out the address/business/destination.  However, when I try "Speak It," it still dials out to the Sprint "Navigation/Directory Assistance" automated system number.  I got the heads up about the update today from my local Sprint store (which I believe is a reseller/agent, not an official "corporate" store, if that matters any), where the rep there told me that the update would allow you to just speak in whatever you wanted to search via speech recognition, so that's what led me to find the update in the first place.

If it makes any difference, the file I downloaded for the update is named "SN28-1029-tn-signed.apk" and it's 4.4MB in size.

I hope that the update to Android 2.1 *REALLY* improves the GPS performance of this phone.  The CL14 update has helped somewhat with the activation of aGPS (which helps with more static location-based apps like foursquare, Yelp, Where, etc. ...apps which work fine with just a quick check of your general location), but relatively speaking, the Sprint Navigation performance on the Moment sucks major monkey gonads.  The phone's need to have a really clear view of the sky for it to work while moving really makes it impractical to use for me.  It's frustrating to keep hearing it try to recalculate the route because it keeps losing the satellite signal.  Sad to say, but Sprint Navigation was tons more effective on the WinMo-running Motorola Q9c I previously had.  (Of course, the Moment is tons more effective than the Q9c on a number of other fronts, but I'm trying to compare apples to apples here, so to speak.)

One last thing...in the preferences, there's a option for "Connection" and the choices for it are BIS, MDS(BES), and TCP...does anyone know which one of these should be the one to use (or if it actually matters)?  It shows BIS by default.

Yes the "Premium" is at the top of the screen after login.  It shows v2.8 at the first screen then boots up normal and when the first Menu pops up, there it is at the top
"Sprint Navigation Premium".

Now that is my phone.  My wifes still says "Sprint Navigation" on hers.

I downloaded at the same time.  And I tried the uninstall update and reinstall it but it still shows regular "S N".  Her version is v2.8 but I cant figure it out.

Another issue is that the "Premium" version alllows for the speak it to be voice recognition or call it in.  But the regular version does not have the option to set in preferences.

BIS stands for Blackberry Internet Services.  BES stands for Blackberry Enterprise Services.  That shouldn't be showing up as an option on an android handset.  Something is definitely fishy with your install.

That's what I was thinking after I looked up BIS/BES.   Huh

Dayve, does your wfie's phone also have the BIS/BES/TCP option in the preferences?

I wonder if you transferred the apk file you downloaded to your phone over on to hers and installed that if it would show up as "premium?"

Hers does have those options. Same as mine.  She has the same SN 28-1029tnsigned.apk as I do.  Still without a clue.

Go to menu>settings>applications>Unknown sources.

You need the box checked for that one.
