I know my questions would probably be answered if I searched and read for hours and hours,, and I am going to spend allot of time on here reading, I know!

But, if someone could try to help a NOVICE, I am a 53 yr old reasonably computer literate male. I build my own, get into the software parts sometimes, mess with the windows registry with very good directions and have reasonable success getting rid of malware, virus's ect...

I need to figure out why my battery is running low fast, I have had my Moment for about 6 weeks. And if I DO NOT CHARGE it every night, I am done,,, I have the screen set on 1 minute, I have taskiller installed, I have up to 17 apps running when I open task killer, and when I use that, I still have 13 running,,,,,
I have all the stuff running everyone else mentions.
Android.iqd, Nuance voice control, settings, system updates, voice search, I'll get a better list later, right now I only have those running, (along with taskiller of course) I don't know what I did to get it down to 13 either!
I would LOVE to delete the programs that run on here that I won't be using, ever, like Amazon MP3,, I won't be buying music from them,, WHY do they have an app running in my phone all the time! LOL,, I HATE them, they won't be getting any of my money,, if not for ONLY that reason!

Can someone try to help me, please talk to me like I know NOTHING of the software on these phones,, because I don't.
If someone thinks they can take me by the hand, and lead me, that would be AWESOME!

Thanks in advance,, and if anyone has a 7.3L Ford Powerstroke they need help with, I can most certainly try to help there!

there are threads and on removing apps....you will need to root the phone

in the long run i would just say to install a custom rom and let it do all the work, some of the apps you dont want will be removed and there is better battery code for longer life

check out http://forum.sdx-developers.com/android-2-1-74/?PHPSESSID=1uspp55omcpjllc2ugfk4d6fo7 to learn about the custom roms

p.s. i never use task killers, in the end youre spending more time killing tasks than its worth

Ok, I read a little on there, and how do I go about getting a "Custom ROM"? I mean, do I HAVE to build it? LOL,, or what?
Also, what do they do exactly? Is it a new OS for the phone?

The Rooting section of this forum and the Things To Do After Rooting are both wealthy in knowledge and assistance. I'd recommend checking those threads out and you will actually gain a lot of insight. Someone will be here to assist. Cheers!

If you're not comfortable rooting, install Startup Auditor ($1 in the Market) and block unwanted apps from ever starting. It has been a lifesaver for my battery and useful since I'm not comfortable rooting my phone.
