Also for anyone interested I used a CNET Bandwidth test and got 412.3 kbps on the EVDO network with 5 bars out of 6. Not bad honestly... maybe not the greatest for large downloads but plenty fast for web pages and just about anything else. Good work with the tether app!!

Edit: I did the speed test quick with my cable modem connection which is suppose to be 5mb and got 1755.6 Kbps just for comparison.

ALSO I don't have my laptop available so I used a Belkin USB Wireless adapter on my desktop so that could have caused a difference in speed.

I have a Sprint USB adapter, so I tested them side-by-side. The biggest factor in speed is always reception (and congestion); the antenna on the Moment is not optimal for high-speed internet access, so that's a factor.

However, from where I sit, my USB adapter can pull 600 to 800 kbit, while the tethered phone can do 500 to 650 kbit right now, which isn't too far behind. The USB device used to be my primary internet connection for the house back before the 5GB limit, and I've seen speeds reliably hold at 1.0Mbit to 1.2Mbit when I lived closer to a tower, so I'm pretty sure the phone can do it too under the right conditions.

i have noticed the speed is pretty pathetic with pdanet 112. Compared to my old Centro its pretty depressing how much of a difference this phone is...atleast it works tho. I wish they would sell a better antenna for the moment or somthing

Hmm really? I've been using it pretty solidly for about a half hour or so without problems.

Sorry to hear that it will inevitably still freeze but hey it works better then CL14.

Yeah I'm in no rush for tethering to be completely stable, I think its very neat but in nearly every situation where I would need internet, I have it, like I said its just neat stuff Tongue

after testing with downloading and stuff it definatley stops transmitting data and will not work again untill rebooting the phone. I cant even download a 30mb file Sad

darn you samsung!

Something is going on that's choking the modem. Once it gets into this state, you can't do anything with the radio -- no data, no calls, you can't even put it into airplane mode. Unfortunately I haven't found anything helpful in logcat or dmesg, though another pair of eyes might be helpful.

The interesting thing is that it doesn't happen if the network client is a process on the phone itself -- you can download as big a file as you want, from what I can tell. So then the question is, what's different about the packets when they come from a tethered computer instead of when they come from the device.

It would be really helpful if we could get tcpdump onto the phone.

I just flashed to ZE07 (only mod i've done to my phone) and when i try to download it says "Cannot download. The content is not supported on the phone"

Do i need to do anything else? (perhaps with CL14)

If you're talking about the APK, the most foolproof way to do it is download it onto your computer and then use ADB to install it ("adb install c:\foo\bar\xyz.apk").

In theory, you SHOULD be able to download it directly to the phone using your phone's browser -- but you may have to install it using a file manager (not the one that comes with the moment, that hides APKs).

You can always put the apk on the sdcard and use astro to install it

So, in other words, I DO NOT need to have cl14 installed.

Ok, i got it working (without cl14).  I did a speed test through cnet and it was fine (4-500) but as soon as i try to speed test through speedtest.net it passes the latency test (~140) but then the internet freezes up the internet and I believe i have to do a reboot to be able to tether again...

Question: wasn't there some article that sprint was going to somehow be "disabling" tethering, or doing away with that ability? Does this mean that this will eventually be useless? Or do they mean just the "legit" way of tethering?

Phone's built in browser wont allow it.  Copy it to SDcard then use astro.

Man this is the one feature I REALLY want to have back on my phone.  I just tried it with the standard modem with Z07 and tried some streaming audio and the phone locked up after about halfway through a song.

Hopefully there will be more progress soon on this one.
