If I root the moment will I be able to update it from sprint? Like OS updates, firmware, and etc? Also should I root it before updating to 2.1, when it comes out, and will I be able to update to 2.1 after I root it? In addition, can I update to 2.1 and then root it or will i have to wait for a root to be out for 2.1?
And if i cannot update trough sprint how do i update? And if I root before updating will the moment still be rooted after? If so wouldnt that make it the best choice to do?

BTW im getting the phone this week so i wanna know asap what to do so i can update or not when i get it.

Thanks in advanced everyone.

Rooting does not change your future upgrades in any way, other than you will have to do a few extra steps to go back to stock before updating. As far as 2.1 you can either flash back to stock and take the Sprint update or wait until we get a rooted version and flash that. As far as i know the root from 1.5 will not carry over to 2.1 because it uses a different linux kernel. however from what i have seen from our developers they work at an extremely fast pace that a business like Sprint or Samsung could only dream about. I personally plan on staying on 1.5 until the devs get it all worked out, but the choice is yours and yours alone(old legend of the hidden temple spot there Smiley)

Dang I already love this forum with really fast and informative responses.
thanks for the quick response
Also what extra steps will have to be taken to upgrade? And how will I know if an upgrade is available or if a new root version is out? Whose root do you use Zefie's or Joeys?

The extra steps only involve putting your phone back to stock before doing whatever Sprint requires. I would recommend you check out both joeys and Speedrabbits. both are basically the same but speedrabbit has some extra features if you use them. zefie has retired from Android developments so seeing any new Zefie kernels is a long shot, however you are welcome to use any of his that are out and we will help the best we can. To keep up with the newest updates from joey and Speedrabbit follow there threads on SDX-Develpers for info on there latest releases.

Also, there is a Sticky thread with a vast amount of material/content regarding this topic. There is assistance available. Do some research and digest some of the material. We'll be glad to assist once you have gained some insights on the process and encounter issues. Good luck.

Yea you can dump speedrabbits file (1.7) in there instead of zef's. I did it yesterday.
