standard usb tethering works fine if you are paying sprint $40 extra for Phone-As-Modem. Basically we are reffering to free tethering, mainly because we never got in trouble for it yet. It usually involves a program forwarding data activity (wifi tether) or an option to change the NAI (which username/password it sends to Sprint when you dial)

Just to clear things up for me... and i may just be dense.  I haven't paid sprint $40 extra and I was able to tether via usb just fine.  Is there something I'm not understanding?

How? Please post the steps.

I believe these were the instructions I used.

1. Make sure the Moment is not connected to your PC
2. Download and Install New Studio PC from the link above or
Download the stripped drivers from Studio PC a few threads up, and
store in some location on your hard drive.
3. Once the Studio PC installation is done, you can now download (if you haven't already) and install PDANET 1.17 on your laptop. It will stop with a pop up
and a list of instructions for moving forward with the installation.....

4. Now, on your Moment, you'll want to turn on "USB DEBUGGING".
Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB DEBUGGING
5. Connect the Moment to your PC. The PC will now start installing the
necessary drivers. If you've grabbed the stripped drivers, you'll have to
manually point the install to the folder locations.
6. Once all drivers are done. Hit OK on the PDANET installation prompt. The PC will now install PDANET on your Moment.
7. Once done. Go back to the Moment and look for PDANET. Turn it on while it's still connected to the PC. It should now make a connection.

I take no responsibility for this.  It took me a couple tries to get it going.

PDA Net is an emulator of sorts, it also costs. wifi tether does not.

throughput will be higher from wifi tether.

Definately... and I for one am looking forward to wifi tether.  I spend a lot of time in a place with no internet access but with 3g coverage. so it would be nice if my buddy and i could use our laptops through the phone.

I am still curious as to why you mention having to pay sprint an extra $40 a month to use usb tethering.... I don't want to see a surprise $40 ding on my account!

PDA != tethering
Tethering is rerouting all data from the mobile device to the computer.. PDA net only emulates a data request from the moment and fowards the data to the PC. it works kinda like a router instead of a modem...

I'm a bit confused by this post....
You and me both

I think this is in context tho with zefie being pissed off at samsung for releasing this..
Orange you have to take into context the fact that these posts were made BEFORE we got the newest version of odin that is able to flash a bricked CL14 moment... Since it is now recoverable, zefie has been working hard to modify the CL14 kernel to enhance CJ05 for all of us without us needing to reflash a hybrid CL14 rom..
He was pissed because it seems they intentionally wanted everyone to just screw up their moment, since it updated with anyone attempting to to use PC New Studio it seems (i have never used this software so i have no idea what the situation was in the updater)... Zefie has no store within 100 miles so if they bricked their moment with CL14 at the time, the only option was to wait 2 days or so for a replacement to be shipped and recieved... which is unacceptable to most people (i know it is for me since this is the only phone number i have period)...

immature and incompetent... interesting choice of words to describe the guy who has (imo) done more for this phone than anyone else. Customized roms, figuring out how to flash it, figuring out how to fix the cl14 bug, etc etc. I don't think that's the description of incompetent.

i'm a little confused because this seemed to have come out of nowhere...  orange, i know that you've done work as well...  and zefie has acknowledged everyone:

So those who are donating to me, I appreicate it. See if you can't fit hokansoc in your budget tho, because we can't unbrick his phone Sad And peepsalot because he has done as much as me, if not more. Smiley I'm not the only one here, not by no means.

And even those of you who can't help technically, but just help by donating, you also are helping in a big way! Motivation.
