Ok that is now three bricked phones lol stop the madness this is a guaranteed way to brick your phone Tongue I'm still playing with it but it is starting to look very hopeless... I will blame PC Studio software tomorrow at Sprint, saying I just wanted to transfer some music and it mentioned an update and bricked it Tongue.

Odin seems to freeze at different points, its frozen right now at Setup connection...

I don't know much.  I know it is a Maintenance Release and I know it now contains a "Recovery" partition.  I can't get PCStudio to actually update it.  I'm debabting about modifying the OPS file to include the recover partition and flash using ODIN.

I doubt this is a 1.6/2.X update, but I hope it would include fixes for AGPS, Battery, Airplane Mode bug.  Plus the recovery partition which I assume would allow you to "hard reset".

Interesting, being as there is no recovery "partition". The recovery in the current firmware boots the kernel then runs /sbin/recovery (which, even as root on a normal boot, simply reboots the phone, hence the reboot loop). The /sbin/recovery file resides in the initrd of the kernel flash partition.

The only "recovery" we have is download mode in the SBL...

Granted, Sammy may have released a file with a recovery "partition", but since there is none on our phones, it would require the OneNAND to be repartitioned somehow. Try rebuilding it with retar-moment and removing the "recovery partition". Thats what I'm gonna try once I get a copy.

Edit:
misaki:/storage/users/zefie/Samsung Moment/Original Firmware/SPH-M900_CL14_MR# md5sum zImage recovery.rfs
8a250cbe052a35e73ad2e89c72367878  zImage
8a250cbe052a35e73ad2e89c72367878  recovery.rfs

And retar-moment leads to progress bar freezing. Oh the irony, My rant did this crap after the battery died. Samsung just seems notorious for freezing at 100% loading huh...

Have you tried getting an adb logcat after it hits 100%? I was having issues when I tried to enable certain things in the kernel that would happen and /system/bin/sh was missing when I tried to adb shell or logcat. The device was there, but I couldn't do anything. had to recompile/retar/reflash.

Can't now, tried to reflash and like others, odin freezes at "Check download environment", which, without the odin reboot code, just locks the phone (trying to restart normally = pc<->phone icon).

This is the phone that insurance thought I 'lost', so I can't get it fixed @ sprint. Joy.

The problem is in the new factoryfs.rfs.

I made a custom tar and flashed my good phone with everything from cj05 except factoryfs.rfs. Boot hang.

The good news is, since I used the Sbl.bin from CJ05, I am able to flash in Odin still Smiley

DO NOT FLASH CL14'S Sbl.bin IF YOU ARE HELPING TEST THIS MYSTERIOUS RELEASE.

USE CJ05'S SBL.BIN OR DONT FLASH IT AT ALL, AND U CAN STILL USE ODIN.

Looks like the dickwads at Samsung want to remove our only form of recovery in the next upgrade. Beware of any new upgrades with boot.bin and Sbl.bin!!!!

Edit: Flashing just new kernel and modem.bin seems to work. Need to figure out what is wrong with factoryfs.rfs tho, that has all the patched android stuff. But I'm guessing Sammy will fix this eventually

Edit2: Kernel version: 2.6.27 shina.lee@Fortune

new android version from unflashed factoryfs.rfs: CUPCAKE-CL14

So it is still cupcake, but it would be nice to see if it fixed all these annoying rectum glitches. I haven't tried sound yet to see if the new kernel fixes the buffer. n/m, notifications still stutter. God I miss my Hero.

Perhaps the stutter and other issues would be fixed if the factory.rfs worked,...

Dang the bootloader... you know I read and thought about blocking that from flashing  Tongue

We should make a flashing sticky to store what we know in one place AND provide a ops file that will not flash the bootloader, just an idea. If Sammy is going to block our one and only recover method its just going to keep getting riskier and riskier to try our own stuff. Sad

Does Samsung use Odin? Surely they will still have a way to flash the phone...

Just a warning, even after going back to CJ05.tar i cannot seem to download anything from the Android market now...

Edit: After flashing CJ05 many times, and not getting Market to work, I flashed all of CJ05 EXCEPT zImage and modem.bin, I used those from CL14, and now my Market works again (note last time I also used data.rfs and cache.rfs from CL14 as well, this time I did not.)

I wonder if this means we can't downgrade because the older files are smaller and OneNAND Flashing doesnt blank the rest of the partition?

If that's true, that's just slackage on Samsung's part. There's no excuse for shitty code. (Then again, there's no excuse for OneNAND either.)

Sprint Repair Center called my phone "unsalvageable" and that it wouldn't take a flash even with proper software... I already posted some of the other things he said in the Moment or Hero post but he said that every sprint approved update will be OTA with no exceptions basically...

They worked on my phone for about an hour, he commented that the boot loader was shot.

Well I'm on my 4th moment now.... hackings always fun until somebody gets hurt  Wink
I think sprint has traded out more moments than it has sold because of the fact that it easier to replace it than to fix it.
