I was thinking of rooting my Moment, and was wondering if it is easy to reset my Moment back to the factory default ROM/firmware if necessary.  Can I just do that from the restore menu after rooting successfully?  Or is it more involved than that?

Thanks!

No you would have to re-flash the stock ROM.  If you are uncomfortable doing the hacks. i recommend leaving your phone alone until you get more comfortable. just because im curious. what do you want to do after rooting your Moment?

Thanks for the info!

I'm interested in the speed tweaks as well as the fixes (such as the battery life indicator).  I also would like to be able to install apps that require root access.

all of that (aside from maybe the root programs) are accomplished with one of the custom kernels that the devs are working on.

Yeah?  Is there a particular build you would recommend?  I downloaded SPH-M900_ZE08.2_KERN.zip and was thinking of using that.  Would I be better off using something else?

Oh, another thing I would like to have access to is wifi-tether.

yes, you definitely CAN flash back to the stock kernel.  the stock kernel is in the same folder as zefie's custom kernels.  i can't remember the name of it off the top of my head, but it's got the words "CJ05+CDMA+SOMETHINGELSE.zip" in the name.  a bunch of plus signs.  i have it in my how-to guide on sdx-developers.com, but i can't access that site from work so I can't tell you the name of the file.

same of the stock kernel - SPH-M900_CJ05_KERN+LOGO+CDMA-ONLY.zip
i downloaded it just in case
i flashed to ze8.2 yesterday and hadn't have any problems other than google voice force closing on start up, but it still works.  everything else seems much better plus ive been able to take off the sprint stock apps i dont use!

Actually, I believe that's the stock kernel w/ the updated logo, root, and perhaps the updated modem?  I think there's a plain CJ05 in that same folder that is the stock, stock version.

stock kernels are in stock folder not custom.. dont touch the stock CL14 it is there for completeness it will still brick you. if you want cl14, use the one in custom.

so the verdict here is that flashing back to the stock kernel to put a smile on the sprint techs' faces isn't painful at all?

its no harder than flashing to one of the custom roms. If you can do that....going back is easy.
