this is now my second time i have had the moment, while the battery life seems improved still everytime i send or receive a text msg of IM several programs open on their own...moxier email, sprint navigation, google maps, voicemail, alarm clock, voice control etc etc. I have to kill these programs with ATK everytime i do these things and i am clueless in why this is happening...anyone else notice this issue? it takes my available memory from 47-50 down to under 30 for no apparent reason

yes i know its an obvious question and everyone has this issue, but why does this OS do this? and is 2.1 going to resolve this annoying issue and constant need to be killing tasks that in most cases have neverr been used.

i personally DO NOT use task killers, i let the phone do its intended job.....as to the apps reopen well could be numerous reasons, half the software could be tied to each other in some way or another...i.e. contacts attached to nav. email and messaging could be anything just the way the apps share services

i dont know, all i use the phone for is texts, IM's and phone calls for the most part. and when i use these simple things after i send or receive anything or get off the phone 10 programs are running. Including programs that have nothing to do with these things such as gmail, alarm clock, moxier, etc etc and the drop in available memory is staggering without the use of a taskiller.  I guess we'll see how things pan out after the 2.1 update.  You don't have battery problems without using a killer app with a moderate ammount of usage?

You can always remove the apps you don't use. If they aren't installed they can't run.

its not the apps i d/led that run on their own, its the sprint programs that can't be removed without rooting that are the problem.

Ah yes the whole TaskKiller vs No TaskKiller never-ending debate.

Here's my experience (and the research I've done).

Linux is completely different than Windows in the way it handles applications and services.  Android is based on Linux (fyi).  It will (in layman's terms) "bookmark" the app and pause it using extremely minimal resources so that it can be quickly accessed when called upon again.  A good way to think of it is like your car idling.  If you turn your car off for a few minutes and then start it you will use more gas than if you let it idle for those few minutes.  So when you are killing these apps and they reopen, you are using up MORE resources, and more battery power.

Android has the code built into it to handle the resources.  It will close apps automatically to free up resources IF NEED BE.  Now, the OS can't account for crappy 3rd party apps so just make sure that you are only installing high quality apps (the top downloaded ones are usually fine...)

Now here's my experience.  I went TaskKiller crazy when I first had my Moment because I was so stuck in my Windows frame of mind that I thought I had to kill all these apps.....  then I found out the above information through a developers website.  Since then I have never killed an app and never had battery issues or force close issues at all!

I would highly encourage you to reboot the phone and let it do it's work.  Go a few days without killing one app or doing anything, just use the phone like you want to, the way it was meant to be used.  I've noticed that I can go days and it runs just as smooth as ever, no need for excessive reboots at all.

Try it and I'm sure you'll see a difference.

i understand your logic, but the programs that are running relentlessly in the background are apps that i have not and most likely will not ever use and just run when i am doing completely unrelated tasks. The memory consumption is pretty large considering this fact. I mean its not just a few mb's its up to 20 sometimes more pointlessly running on unused and basically unwanted programs

This is by far the top reason why people root there phones(not as scary as it sounds) May be something you should consider.

I'm considering it, but i don't want to void my warranty (I've only had the phone for a week) I mean it probably is more of a nuisance than anything right now. Other than havin to kill tasks everytime i wake or put my phone to sleep, the cl14 update has vastly improved the battery life IMO. If there's no improvement after the official 2.l update I probably will root and at least remove moxier mail which i will never use and is the biggest of the programs runnin on its own and of course the useless nascar sprint cup.  Thank you for all the help tho everyone, if i do need to root i know where to get help with it from
