I really love my Moment, but it is soooo embarrassing!

It is big.
It is heavy.
It drops calls - often.
It locks up completely (airplane mode).
It is slow (and will freeze for 15 seconds).
It acts poorly on low battery power (which is after 2 hours)
It acts poorly with low signal strength (which is, well..., Sprint).
It surprises me often with failures (e.g. I Shared (E-Mailed) a Gallery picture on Jan 24th which just arrived today (in both Gmail and Yahoo! inboxes) on Feb 18th!!!  It took over 3 weeks to email a photo!  I bet the other phones couldn't do THAT on a dare!).

These are just a few of the things that I try to hide when showing off my new toy, but if asked whether or not to buy it, I come clean and always recommend AGAINST the Moment.  Too many people want reliability and this Samsung does not aim at that market.

For this device, we are early adopters, but for Smart Phone owners, we are far from the lead and there are other phones that beat the Moment in any category.  Maybe, they should have skipped voice call support and then I wouldn't be so disappointed when the "phone" fails at being a "phone" but still does 100 other fun & useful things - often well, but occasionally very poorly...

I am so embarrassed (but I do love my Moment).

Zorg - are you just running stock?  Have you had Sprint update your phone yet?  Or have you thought about whether you'd want to root your phone?

Can't do anything about the big and heavy part...

Dropped calls:
I haven't had any dropped calls more than usual (I have a few dead spots on my commute, but that's every phone).  Make sure your PRL is updated.

Airplane mode - I don't get this often, maybe once since October - make sure your profile and PRL are okay.

Slow - what do you have running on your phone?  I don't have lag.  Install Overclock Widget and you can control speed, which may help?

Low Battery Power - once again, the official update supposedly made this better.  For rooted phones, Numus's code for the battery works well too.  There have been talks about people's phones lasting multiple days.

Low Signal Strength - hehe, Sprint's not too bad.  (it helps that we have a tower on our building...  lol)

Email, Photo, etc - I haven't had this issue - my texts, picture mail, uploads usually happen within 10 minutes...  may be that your signal isn't good?

Well, thanks - all those suggestions are useful and may work.  We know that each user reports that some "fixes" work, while others do not.  Tis a strange beast, the Mo' is...

Partly, I am grumbling of course.  It is so awkward to have a cool girlfriend who has significant odd aspects that I cannot introduce her to my friends - just have a look... Yup, she is sexy!  But, ummm, well don't talk to her since you'll discover my secret that she is a lil bit stupid.

That's my gripe I guess.  When I want to show off my sexy toy, she stutters, blinks, and force closes!  Who wants to brag about a date like that??  But she still has a special spot at my bedside (where her power cord is, natch!)...

PS. That email SNAFU was my trigger to post today - I have NEVER seen such a thing and all my other messages/email/texts get delivered as we all expect them to be.  Just that one day's messages left the phone (I know they did) and traveled around the universal ether for 600 hours and then came to roost where they had been sent.  Peculiar, that... my pocket-size GF is a flaky, enchanting, daily surprise!

I feel your pain for the the lovely lady that acts dumb when being shown off. She does have a lot of potential that we are still waiting to harness whenever they release the 2.1. Until then it is really embarrassing to show her off. There is nothing peculiar about her that other phones cannot do if not even better.

I bought my Moment November 1st.  Four months now and I'm still stunned when I read these complaints because, aside from the battery issue, I've had zero problems with anything you listed.  And after CL14, I no longer have an issue with the battery either.  Could I really be the only one who got a Moment that works the way it was meant to?

I have to agree with kenny.....i have been on stock and almost all of the ZE kernels from like 6 on up. ive flashed 100 different things onto my phone. messed up about a dozen or so of these things to the point ive had to reset my phone back to stock. yet i ve still have very few of the issues you are reporting. Unfortunately i think you may have a bad phone or bad cell coverage.....hope it all works out,

Wonder, if your gal, talks as much as mine, she complaines all the time, while I hear no one else cairing they shunn, turn away. keep silient.

her flasing icons of doing a simple task  left here  with no other choice, but a abonomy, electric shock treatment.

it's like she visited Meet Dave, the movie. a team that are  pushing imaginary buttons. that were never added. or should i say a  Woody alan , Everything you wanted to know.......

I guess flirting with support beats anytime foreplaying, with my gal.

that ship is sailing, and  it's a one way ticket for her.

That was then, this is Now, what will today bring,  slot paying off all day.

on a side note:  what is CL14?   a fix for the battery issue I presume?

yes, my Moment has it's, umm, moments..... but all in all its a great TOOL, just probably not the right choice for me, cuzz I dont really have the time to 'play' and 'learn' enough about "her" to get her dialed in, and I really really need a working PHONE.  But, the apps are fun to play with, she works MOST of the time and rarely do I encounter any issues.  the most annoying one for me is the weak speaker phone option, well, and the fact that once in a great while she will simply LOCK UP when making a call, and I hafta remove the battery to fix it.....

other than that.... its a toy for me more than a phone, and it was my fault for wanting something I really did not have the time to play with and learn more about, but heck, she works often enough to keep her around (when put in wife mode...LOL)... and although I rarely run out of battery because I dont really get to 'play' with her too much, I would like a battery upgrade or software upgrade cuzz trying to keep the battery up at the level which my PHONE likes, is time consuming at best....I hate a phone shutting off or going into "survival mode" when I am displaying 50% battery life....if you know what I mean....

I came here to rant the above point...

Dropped calls, even within sight range of tower... ok.
Rebooting randomly when battery is in red (which is 4 hours after you pull if off the charger)... ok.
Supreme lag randomly... ok - probly my fault for installing any apps at all.
Airplane mode... ok.
No notification LEDs... my fault for not checking before buying... ok
shitty fscking useless Nuance instead of voice search in 100 other apps... ok.
no picture mails execpt for 3 or so days after you call Sprint to reset your account or whatever they do... ok.
Exchange sync works, but not in push mode... ok.

But at least work as a phone... please?  I was late to a meeting so dialed in from the car until I got there.  As I walked into the meeting i pressed End a bunch of times to hang up.  It didn't hang up.  Every time I move I can hear the thing moving around in my pocket over the speaker phone in the conference call.

I'm pressing, holding End, over and over again.  Nothing.  Finally get back to my desk and the thing is completely unresponsive.  Pull the battery.  Angry Angry

Sometimes it seems like Samsung or Sprint never even tested it.  Most of the bugs I saw the first week I owned the thing, which makes me an idiot for keeping it.

It is big.
I watch videos and web surf, so I like the big screen.

It is heavy.
That's funny because I originally bought the Palm Pre and joined Pre forums and a complaint about the Pre was that IT WAS TOO LIGHT and felt like a toy.  Go figure, too heavy, to light...

It drops calls - often.
I only drop calls when going over this certain part of a lake on the way home.  Other than that, no problems.

It locks up completely (airplane mode).
That happened to me once, very aggravating.  Haven't had it happen again so no problem.

It is slow (and will freeze for 15 seconds).
It can be painfully SLOW sometimes.  The Palm Pre, like the Iphone was snappy whenever you push a button, very fast response.  Also the Moment is laggy when rotating from vertical to horizontal.  I installed "Process Manager" and it shows which apps start at Boot.  I uninstalled apps I don't use and started using the built-in Home instead of GDE and it's much faster now.

It acts poorly on low battery power (which is after 2 hours)
I can get 12 hours easily on a battery charge, but that is pathetic compared to my wife's old Blackberry (2-3 days without charging).  Her Iphone lasts longer too.

It acts poorly with low signal strength (which is, well..., Sprint).
This happens to me on occasion also.

I am so embarrassed (but I do love my Moment).
I'm not embarassed.  A friends computer crashed and his Iphone was connected to it and was transferring stuff.  It bricked his Iphone, and once fixed, he lost everything.  He had to provide proof of purchase from Itunes to get credit for songs and apps he lost, so he lost around $60 worth of purchased stuff.  I can just copy and paste songs and apps to my hard drive or flash drive and have a backup without HAVING to use Itunes or anything else.

I do have a gripe about the screen going blank while on calls, but I'll start another thread about that to get help.

I've only had problems with GPS and the battery, and with CL14, it works fine. I get a bad signal every once in a while, usually in places where other people don't get coverage, either. I live in NYC, so there are towers everywhere, but dead spots do occur.
