MODS: i could not figure out where to place this cause it is a how FOR an accessory... so move it as needed.

When i first bought this phone i went online looking for an external battery charger an relized that there was not one available so i went searching for a compatible one on the net and i found the BlackJack II multifunction cradle on amazon so i bought it knowing that my phone would not fit in the cradle and that it had the old Samsung usb jack on it (the one that was used on the instinct) but i bought it anyways for the sole purpose to make it work for my phone! any ways here is the HOW TO of how to convert the BlackJack II cradle to a Samsung Moment Cradle

items needed:
1. Soldering Iron/Solder
2. Micro USB cable (i used the factory one that came with the phone)
3. The Cradle

First off, you need the Cradle this is the exact one that i purchased: http://www.amazon.com/Function-Cradle-adapter-Samsung-BlackJack/dp/B0013URK0E/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t

after you wait forever for it to arrive then you take off the back by removing all the screws under the foam pads. i just poked a hole through the pads.

next you remove the old charging cable by desoldering the cable there are five wires:
Silver (ground), Red(Positive) White, Green, and Black (Negative). after the old wire is removed then measure it against the new micro usb cable and cut an extra inch or so longer than it.

then solder the new usb wires on as follows. from right to left Black Green White Red
DO NOT HOOK UP THE GROUND IT WILL SHORT OUT!

Extra step: move the negative wire from the blue LED and hook it up the the negative on the USB. Done for coolness....

after that is finished you put the back on the cradle and we grab the Clear peice that is suppose to hold the phone in place on the cradle and pull it out, then take a pair of plyers break off the two little bubs that keep the moment from fitting in it. next take out your soldering iron again and melt a spot for the camera button in the side of the holder other wise the camera button will the the holder and wont sit right in the cradle.

put the holder back in the cradle and your done enjoy your new Samsung Moment Charging Cradle/External Battery Charger!

Will Make a youtube vid on how to do this because i am really bad at explaining things in words.

How hard is it to de-solder?  How much does a good soldering iron cost?

0x1a4geek did something similar to what you did awhile back.  I didn't try it, but I think I need to make one so I'll have a fully charged backup battery.

Yes this will allow charging of a spare battery

Also, the soldering iron I use is a hakko 936 its about $80 usd but it has hundreds of tips for it.
And it takes almost no time at all to do this mod. If I had seen that previous thread I probly would not have made this how to.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video is worth a thousand pictures.  Thanks for posting the vid.

Looks like a fine job. But I'm just not sure what the point of all the work is. It charges a spare battery but you don't need to mod another charger to do that, you can just buy one. Is it charging the phone at the same time also? If that is also the case then what's wrong with a regular charger? At least with the regular wall charger you can still talk on the phone while it is charging instead of having to leave it in the cradle. So what am I missing here? Have I just missed the whole point altogether?  Tongue

The Whole reason for this is because there is NO external battery charger on the market for the samsung moment! and the added feature of the usb/cradle is an added bonus not really needed but still cool.

There are plenty of external battery chargers for the Moment. Maybe not Samsung branded but the one you built isn't exactly a Samsung model either. I guess as long as they work that's all that matters.  Smiley

there are currently no external battery chargers for the Samsung moment all the ones on the net are Universal battery chargers this is a more custom approach to the external battery charger. also this will give you a nice docking station.. if you dont like then dont do it.. sheese.....

Did I say I was complaining? "Sheese!" If you or anyone else wants to go through the trouble of modding a charger that is made for a completely different phone just so you can fit your Moment battery into it, then more power to you. Personally I don't see how it is any better than a universal charger (other than the docking part, which is a personal preference thing) since yours isn't even a Moment charger to begin with. At least the universal chargers can charge a Moment battery without "modding" it. So just calm down before you accuse someone of "complaining" on here. I'm just stating the facts for people who think they have to do this because they are told there is no external battery charger for the Moment. If a Moment battery will fit in a universal charger then that means there is an external charger that works for the Moment battery. It just doesn't have the "Moment" brand on it. Then again, neither does the modded charger.

Could you share some links with me? I think I am going to get an extra battery and want to know where I can charge it.

If you want to post a link to a universal charger, then go ahead and post it, but there is no reason to be an arse and knock someone else for trying to help others out.  If you don't like it or don't want to do it, then just don't do it.  I like the idea of a phone cradle.  Some phones have cradles you can purchase, and my TomTom has a cradle;  It's just a personal preference.

Apparently people here don't read all of the comments in a post before posting their own. If you had the earlier posts you would see I actually complimented him on this creation and wasn't "knocking" him or anyone else for going through all the trouble just to have a cradle for the phone. It's just obviously not something everyone will want/need or even want to do. I also had already mentioned that it was a personal preference in my last post. Guess you missed that. So no one is being an "arse" here except maybe the people accusing others of comments they didn't make or putting words in someone else's mouth.
