Hey everybody, I need to update my phone to 2.1, but I need to backup all of my stuff, texts, contacts, apps, etc.

I'm a a little lost with all of this programming jargon (entering commands etc)

What is the easiest way to back up my phone so that after I update, all of my contacts, texts, and apps will be back on my phone in the same format (texts will be in Handcent, not just a word document or text file)?

Sorry that I'm such a noob and I'm hoping there is something really obvious I'm just overlooking.....

Im wondering the same thing.... not so much on the contacts.... As they should be stored and tied to your gmail account..... Apps on the other hand.. I have mine backed up using astro file manager.... seems to work pretty well it stores all the backed up apps to the sdcard.

Hope that helps some...

Im also wondering about the voice mails... they are not stored on the phone so... they should be safe as well...

Thanks

Everybody's got their own toolbox, but heres what I use:

(the following 3 are FREE)
App manager by Amazing Droid - Backup and restore apps: apps found on sdcard @ Mgeek/Appmanager/apk_backup

App Dragon App Lister by stonedonkey - Makes a text list of the apps you have and emails them to you: in case you forget to back some up

AppsInstaller  by ModMyGphone.com - Automatically searches ENTIRE sdcard for apps:  sometimes I'll find an app and email it to myself because I forgot my USB cable and with AppsInstaller I don't have to use a file manager to hunt for the downloaded app.

I purchased this app, but still prefer the apps above (habit I guess):
Sprite Backup by Sprite Mobile - backs up SMS, MMS, bookmarks, system settings, etc.

Alright, I found a backup app called "MyBackup" it has a lifesaver for the icon. It did a great job with everything except for the text messages.

When it was backing up the texts, an error message popped up and said it couldn't back them up. My girlfriend's phone number was in the error message so I'm assuming it has to do with how many texts I had with her number ( >9000)

I read some other forums and found one that suggested SMS Backup (white envelope with "SMS" in red) The backup went smoothly but when I try and restore the texts after the update, it force closes. Not to happy about this.

MyBackup has a free 30 day trial everything except the texts worked great for me.

2.1 is great!
