Can't recieve e-mail from Roadrunner

I have been through the ringer on this from sprint tech support on th phone, to actually spending 2 hrs. at the store with a tech on monday.  I have a carolina.rr.com e-mail that I have had forever and don't want to change for many reasons.  But every since I updated my software from 1.5 to 2.1 the phone will not recieve my e-mails.  I finally called Samsung support and they tell me that I should have never been able to get e-mails from my roadrunner account because it uses an SMTP server and the Moment will not support it.  Now the store wants me to change to an HTC hero with the same 2.1 software but it will support SMTP servers.  There has to be a better option.  Any help would be great.

I am just using the Email app that  came on the phone, that pops up on the home screen. 

Downloaded it yesterday and got all of my e-mails, had my wife send me a test e-mail today and never got it.  It's set to check e-mail every 15min and I waited for 45min and never got it.  Checked it on my laptop and it was there just like it should be.  Very frustrated and ready to change phones if they can't come up with a fix.  Why would you build a phone that will not except e-mails from a popular site or server, it makes no sence to me.
