I am using Advanced Task Killer now. Its good but I have to click it to kill the tasks that are open.
I don't even load any of them but I click task killer and I find that a bunch of things are open that I have never used. Why does that happen? Stuff running in the background that I didn't open.

What are you guys using and what experience do you have with them?

I Use Advanced Task Killer. It was the first one I tried, and it does exactly what I want. I leave it in the notification bar for ease of access.

Did you know that a long press on a single app will bring up an options menu? The first choice is: kill.

A lot of those open apps have to be running in the background for your phone to function properly, some of them do not.

I use Taskiller.  It's got a simpler interface and comes with several widgets.

Apps will pop back up after you kill them because one app may use another to function right. What I do is after im done with the phone I kill all the apps (I use advanced task manager free) and then kill the task manager. The apps that need to run for the phone to operate will turn back on.

i was using atk then i switched to Advanced Task Manager...it's probably the same thing...though for some reason I feel my phone is faster with advanced task manager than with atk.....

also advanced task manager has a widget where you can click it and kill all apps that are running and not on ur exclusion list....pretty nice since it saves you to have to open the app and clicking kill or whatever...

so with ATK you just long press any app to close it ?. think i will get this, seems more people prefer it than the others, but how is it different from TasKiller or advanced task manager. or others..

I tried advanced task manager, it had a neat widget for closing all apps that weren't in the ignore list, but it kept locking up when I flashed the ZE10 kernel, so I switched back to Advanced Task Killer.

IMO they're a horse-a-piece.

ok so i reccomended task panel earlier in the post but recent updates have rendered it usless or problematic... so i found a excellent replacement called task cleaner pro. in my opinion it is the best thus far and u can even choose to kill tasks at set amount of times.
