When I do a market search for automatic task killer the 3 programs listed above are among the first choices.  I have d/l and installed all of them at different points.  I'm still undecided as to which one is the best.  Advanced Task Killer seems to be very similar to ATK except it has the auto kill feature for free which is nice.  However, when I use the widget to kill apps it sometimes just gets my phone frozen with a black screen with only the task bar showing.

Automatic Task Killer I had a problem with because after the phone "sleeps" and I turn it back on it would be glitchy once in a while.

ATK (free):  Problem I had with this problem is that programs that you close with it often pop right back up in a short time.  However, it seems to be the most stable of the 3 appz.

Which of these if any are you guys using and why?

I've tried all three at one time or another and even some besides those. I deleted the most recent one I had been using 2 days ago, charged my phone overnight, and the battery has lasted longer than it has since I bought it by NOT using a task killer. So for now I'm just letting the phone do it's own thing as far as task killing goes. If I think I need to close an app I'll just force close it. But so far my battery seems like it's going to last about twice as long without any task killer app.

I would have to agree with the last replies as to battery life. My battery life seemed the same with or without running task killers. And the automatic task killers did just make wake-ups more laggy without improving overall batt life.

The best fix I found for extending battery life - I rooted my phone, and use SetCPU to underclock while sleeping...
I'm running joey's 1.9.5 kernel and my battery lasts nearly 24 hours on any given day with moderate use (about 25 calls, a couple hours on the web, 30 or 40 texts, read some emails, and play some tunes from my sdcard...)  With heavy use I might use the music player for 6 hours straight and/or read forums for eight hours straight (in addition to talk and texts as above), and battery life is still at least 12 hours.
I read and read posts on five forums about bad battery life and was almost convinced the moment wasn't worth the money I paid when I could've bought an iPhone. But I loved Android and how it seems endless how customizable this phone was. Especially when you start playing with custom kernels, they open a doorway to even more benefits - like much longer battery life...
Task killers for me have just become a quick way to kill anything running before I set the phone down. I use advanced task killer free, without the widget, just so I can see what's running before I kill all. I don't load at start and I don't leave it running, I kill it too. The widget seemed cool too but doesn't tell what is killed. All you get is "4 apps killed" or whatever number of apps was running.
I think that ATKfree (the one I use) works the best, and from all I've read seems to be preferred by most. But as far as which task killer gives the best improvement for battery life....none of them.

P.S. thanks to all the devs who spend so much time working on kernels and such, and sharing their knowledge in how-to's.... you guys are awesome.
