On been two month I have had the phone and I have discovered I love all the things it can do email, web, apps but it it just a horrible phone!

I have reserved making this post till I searched and spent many hours on the phone to confirm my theories.  Here it is, when your are on the phone it works fine than you get a (TXT, EMAIL, PHOTO, or anything else) and the phone has the need to notify you about this new thing and puts its notification up on the screen and it the process of this it turns off the proximity sensor and for an brief moment you are pressing stuff with your face.  I mute the phone often and have put on speaker phone sometimes before I notice it I have open all kinds of stuff.  It sucks.

So is there an adjustment or a menu I missed in the phone that can help me.

PS: I hate headsets

PSS: I miss my A900 for phone calls

If you can wait a while, 2.1 addresses this issue by adding sliders to activate the mute and speakerphone.  No more annoying buttons to hit with your cheeks. Wink

And, welcome to the forum.

you can also root your phone currently and install a custom contact.apk search the forum for contact apk there is a thread on the topic.....the custom screen removes the mute button no 2.1 needed for this either

So 2.1 now installed and I had the same annoying problem.  HOW CAN I LOCK THE SCREEN OFF WHILE I'M ON A PHONE CALL.  Its such a PITA that while I'm on the phone I find myself dialing other #'s and on other screes in the phone, searching the web with my face it just sucks!

Found a few "screen lock" programs but they don't lock the screen.  Most do the screen but not the "home" button and thats just as bad as no lock if I can unlock it by hitting the home button.  Anyone find an app that locks the screen and all the front "soft" keys?

SAMSUNG its a great phone I can do anything with it but carry on a conversation!  WTF?

Someone make and app that locks the screen...please!

I'm not having the same problem as the OP, but I was interested in the "contact.apk" you mentioned.  I put contact.apk in the search field, with and without quotation marks and didn't really find anything except "[Burst] Leo *Release*" and that didn't help.

Do you remember which thread is about contact.apk?

So I think I'm at the end of my rope with this problem.  The screen turns on whenever you hit any button while on phone, even the volume up and down.  This is not right!  I can't find an app that will lock these buttons.  Is there one?

So EVO any good?  A friend has one and I tried his...guess what the buttons do not unlock the touch screen, go figure!

I would take the phone back. Some have been known to have faulty proximity sensors which sounds like your problem. I would have to agree with you that the phone is a PITA though. I have had it for 6 months now, upgraded to 2.1 hoping for a more stable phone only to have to do hard resets when it locks up (not often) and constant soft resets due to contant loss of data link. This forum is great, but if you search through all the posts, 90% of the posts are about trying to fix problems with the phone! If it was a decent phone, the majority of the posts would be about improving the software/user experience. Unfortunately searching most forums based on Android devices are very similar to the percent of complaints vs. improving user experience. Maybe 2.2 will fix some of this, but it just seems like this is the Windows of phones, constantly upgrading to fix previous failures. I do like the features that Android has, but the constant problems have become extremely annoying.
