In the early hands-on previews I've seen for the phone, one of the very few complaints I've consistently read all focus on the UI. Why won't Samsung put their Touchwiz Ui on the phone?  Huh The Behold II has it. It would make the phone a comparable buy to the HTC Hero with it's great UI.

"In terms of software, the Moment has the standard Android user interface; no fancy overlay or branded tweaks. Some find that Android UI dull and unfinished, but I personally don't mind it. I was a bit disappointed, however, that it wasn't running a version of Samsung's super touch-friendly TouchWiz overlay for Android. We'll see it on other models though, like on the Samsung Behold 2, which was also announced this week. Samsung said that they have no plans to bring TouchWiz to the Moment." - PC World

The UI is definitely bare, but it still has customization possibilities because its Android.  Right now I believe the Hero is better than the Moment because of Sense UI, but I hear that Android 2.0 will pretty much obsolete all UI overlays because its going to be very customizable.  2.0 is suppose to be killer and we will have the 800Mhz CPU to handle it all.  Right now almost all the Android phones out have a 528Mhz CPU, and Android with a manufacture UI overlay is a bit much for this CPU.  So in 2 months when 2.0 hits we will probably have the best phone out there with AMOLED, keyboard and a huge CPU to run it all seemlessly.  This phone was made for Andoid 2.0 I believe, Samsung and Sprint finally gave us one for the future.

I will be the first to tell you on here that Sense UI is way too much for the Hero hardware.  I would much rather have something simple that works instead of something that looks good but has all kinds of glitches.  Do you want a bombshell of a girlfriend that is a pain in the rectum or do you prefer a more average looking one that is delight to be around in all cases.  That is pretty much what it comes down to.

The Sense UI was basically overkill for me.  I mean 7 homescreens?  It's cool and all, but for me it was a bit much.  It would have been much better if they had focused on tweaking the performance a little more.  Don't get me wrong, it was pretty fast, but they could have done away with some of the fluff for a little performance boost.

I agree.  The Sense UI is nice but not needed for some.  3 screens will do what I need and more.  Much rather have the speed than the bling.

i still dont understand how and why anyone is filling up 7 screens, the only thing i wish for is more widget space. but i can deal with it and not have a f ton of widgets. for the apps the pull up box is on every home screen so all the apps are right there....oh well to each his own

This has been a big reason that I have been leaning towards the Moment rather than the Hero. When I first saw the Hero I was in love and was thinking of all the things I could do with all those space.

Then I found the Moment and discovered it's faster processor. Having seven home screens wouldn't matter to me if filling them all up slows the phone down. I'd much rather be more organized with three screens and have a much faster processor to handle those fewer screens. Like "yourm0m1" mentioned; the pull-up menu for all your apps is easily accessible on any screen. Three screens should be more than enough room for a few shortcuts to apps used every day and maybe a calendar widget.

I also went from the Hero to the Moment and I too can see the performance increase.  I really liked the feel of the Hero over the Moment though, but I am getting over it.  I was just going to swap the Hero for another as I was getting dust in the corner of the screen in between the touch screen and lcd.  They had just put out the moments and at first I thought, "What an ugly phone compared to the Hero".  After seeing how much faster everything felt on the moment...well...I had to have it.  The keyboard is a must to me.  I kept fat fingering that virtual keyboard to the point that I hated to text.  I do miss the eye candy and the looks of the Hero but would not go back as I like too many other things on the moment and these are the things that really count.

Given some time, It would not surprise me to see some UI overlays in the market before to long.  There are some customization apps already out there so check them out.

I've installed Apps Organizer on one of my screens and created folders for all my games and cool tools (like barcode scanner, calculator, bubble, etc). Better than having 7 screens for me and looks clean.

I've put both Open Home and GDE on the moment. My experience with each is...at first everything runs fine and is pretty cool.  But after awhile, things slow down, apps do weird things.  So, after about 2 weeks, I dumped them both and went back to stock Android.....n' lovin' it.  Everything remains snappy, reliable and...I think....better organized.

I can't wait for 2.0 to hit the moment.  we'll get some of those features baked into the OS and then have speed and customization.

Anyways if you want 7 homescreens you can just get ahome, open home, or pandahome or any home replacement like that.  Ive tried those three and their all awsome i didnt notice any extra lag from them or anything.
