Hi Guys, being a retired Computer technician — I discovered why Samsung Moment can never get FroYo 2.2 OS. The Samsung Moment’s ROM simply could not store the Android 2.2 OS file size. Does anyone know what the 2.2 file size is??? I was horsing with my Baby (Samsung Moment) after it started to notify me that ‘storage was low.’ So, I factory hard reset the phone after I had seen the storage data; and you know what? I realized that the maximum ROM space for the Operating System file is only 150 MB, now how can anyone install a 156 MB 2.1 update in that space? Check out the following link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_SPH-M900

Here is what is important:

o
• Memory: 256MB of RAM and 512MB of ROM (150MB /system, 223MB /data, 116MB /cache)
o Supports MicroSDHC. Official capacity up to 16GB, comes with a 2GB Class 2 card from factory.

I rest my case, no FroYo for Samsung Moment; the hardware cannot accommodate its file size.”

I remember with the g1 they adjusted the partitions using the death spl, I forgot how all that worked, but it was used to fit 1.6 and so on onto the device. Alot of bricks resulted from bad flashes and noobs not reading directions, I doubt it will ever happen for the Moment though.

My Samsung Moment SPH-M900 Éclair 2.1 update1 shows:

Internal Storage
Total: 218MB, Free: 179MB

System Storage
Total: 147MB, Free: 21.11MB

System Cache
Total: 113, Free: 111MB

Memory
Total: 162MB, Free: 27.91MB, Idle: 4.171MB

Being new in the Pocket Computer World, I am trying to relate to the various storage spaces in this mini-device.  I figured that internal storage is equivalent to RAM in a PC, System storage would be C:\\ partition size, and System cache would be the same as on any CPU; so, what is Memory and exactly what is stored there?  All the stuff that was installed after the update has been erased and only reinstalled four apps, all this exercise is to learn how to upgrade to FroYo 2.2 OS.  IOWA or someone said something about apps2SD, ASTRO and SD card partitioned for the Operating System files.  Anyone care to give detail instruction on this procedure.  Thank you in advance.

OK, OK, I just installed another Android System Info app, this one has cleared up my query — it shows that the MEMORY 162MB is the RAM and is low on space (17% remaining).

I wonder if this had anything to do with Samsung. Sprint isn't bad about verifying updates.

Hey Guys,
In the two and a half months I have had my Samsung Moment; I have put a lot of studies into it and am learning a lot also.  I was wrong to compare the OS of a PC to that of an Android OS.  PC OS file sizes ranged less than 4meg for early MS-DOS to more than 4GB for modern Windows OS, and that was the reason that I wrongly stated that Samsung Moment couldn’t accommodate FroYo 2.2, but I now learnt that you guys literally assembles these ROMs to fit into the available space on the hardware.
So, FroYo 2.2 OS can be installed on my Samsung Moment SPH-M900, and I think that’s great.  I have been tinkering around with SD cards; I bought 8GB Class 4 and a 16GB Class 2, I downloaded the same 4.5GB video to the two SD; the 16GB transfer rate from my PC to my SPH-M900 was 2.3MB per second and the 8GB transfer rate was 2.57MB/sec. I thought that the Class 4 would have transferred at twice the speed, but not so.  However, the Class 4 transfer time was about 5 minutes less than the Class 2.
