I must be missing something here.  I had to do a factory reset due to my end call button not turning off my screen.  But now that i've reinstalled my apps I'm getting double text message notifications.  One from chompsms and one from messaging.  I went into messaging app and the notifications and auto retrieve messages are both unchecked.  Is there somewhere else i'm missing?

You want to check notification and auto retrieve in Chomp.  And in the default app keep notification unchecked and auto retrieve checked.  Without auto retrieve checked you won't be able to receive mms messages.

in default messaging app:

auto retrieve is uncheck
notifications is uncheck

in compsms:

notification is uncheck
auto retrieve is checked

---

1. Reboot phone and send test message
2. screen does not light up to show message received
3. turn on phone shows white (default) message in notification bar
4. unlock phone and pull down notification bar and hit text message notification
5. phone goes to default messaging app (NOT chomp)
6. read message and it doesn't remove the notification
7. home button then open chomp and read message and it still doesn't clear the notification icon

This problem obviously hasn't always been like this.  It worked fine before i flashed to ZE07 but i think it worked with that for a bit before i did a factory reset.

any suggestions are greatly appreciated

You must have notification checked in Chomp.  Without having it checked in Chomp, it will always go to default app.

no. I've double checked.  I just removed chomp and installed handcent sms instead.  same thing.

i am 100% sure notification is turned OFF in default and 100% sure it's turned on in handcent.

I get a notification from each.

is there a way to just uninstall the default one?

there are ways to remove the default applications, but im not sure if the texting app is one of them.
here is how to remove once you figure out if its safe to delete it:

Ok, so i turned ON the notifications in default and i get three notifications now.

1. is from handcent and is their little icon with the number it came from (i click this and it goes to handcent and removes the notification from the pull down)

2. one is from the default app and is the white envelope and the number it came from (i click this and this time it asked me which program to use as default -since i recently installed handcent - and i chose handcent.  it now takes me to handcent but doesn't remove the notification)

3. one is the default white envelope but says "New message(s)" "you hvae an unread message".  Clicking this takes me to the default app.  If i click the new message it takes away the white envelope from #2 above but leaves the one that says "new message(s)"

Soooooo to me, it seems like handcent is saying, hey we got a new message.  Also, default app is saying "hey we got a new message but if you click me you'll read it through handcent" and also android in general is saying "hey you got a new message(s) and if you click me i'm only going to take you to the default app"

Turning off notifications in default app removes the #2 notification as expected.
