Can you access the internet and everything already? If so, then it doesn't really matter if you can update those. The only time you need to update your profile is if you don't have data access and you should.

Yes...no prob. On internet or anything else....I was able to do those updates when I got the phone a month ago....now I get internal error message when I try.  So I shouldn't worry about updating prl profile or firmware?

Nah don't worry about it. You can't actually update the firmware through that menu... the only firmware updates will be done through the computer... and the Prl and Profile don't matter unless you're having internet issues. So it's nothing to worry about.

Nah don't worry about it. You can't actually update the firmware through that menu... the only firmware updates will be done through the computer... and the Prl and Profile don't matter unless you're having internet issues. So it's nothing to worry about.

Please assist me in understanding this situation. I currently have a Zefie 14.3 kernel running on my device. Whenever I attempt to Update Profile, Firmware and/or PRL, the EV(D) icon disappears and the above mentioned error message appears. Yes, I can connect to internet services without fail usually under normal circumstances. However, after the attempts to update any of the aforementioned options I have to wait until the EV(D) icon reappears to connect to any data services. The wait time varies between 15-seconds to 30-seconds.

If the 2.1 update is going to be OTA will this issue I am having hinder the ability to update the device? Lastly, should I be aware of any issues involving an incorrect kernel flashing which may be the cause of this? Thanks in advance.

If you used that update program called Device Self Service 1.1  it won't work.  You have to go Menu---Settings---About Phone---System Updates---Update PRL.  And there you go.  After I updated the PRL my locks on towers got better.

Are you addressing the original post(er)? Or me? If me, this doesn't apply/work. Thanks for the assistance though. If not for me I will shut up..now.

amexus.....its almost guaranteed 2.1 will not be an OTA update

as far as the EVDO icon taking seconds to reappear that is normal.....once the data profile is updated the radio must reset, it should tell you this on-screen

there is NO reason to do any of the updates in that menu UNLESS you are having issues....dont just do it willie nillie

Understood on all accounts. I do not get the on-screen message however. And yes, you are correct regarding the unnecessary use of the function (update). I was doing so for my personal testing following kernel flashing (root). I wanted to know if the device could/would still connect with Sprint server(s) via that menu. Thank you very much for the clarification(s). I do not have any issues involving data etc. Cheers!

Amex:  for the original post.  The phone won't let you update the prl if there is no update so nothing will happen if you are exploring the lower level menus. The prl should be updated if there is an update out there.  My phone came with a very outdated prl.

This was exactly the fix for my situation regarding PRL update with an error message ending in "Error: Internal error". After trying the update from Settings I find out that I'm already up to date. Thanks Maylea.
