We have 30 Samsung Moments at my company and about 5 people have this issue. When the phone rings, screen lights up showing caller ID. If you don't get it by about the second ring, the screen goes dark (phone still ringing or vibrating), but you cannot answer the call using the pickup button or touching the screen. The ONLY thing you can do is hit end to wake the phone up, thus hanging up on the caller. This is an intermittent issue, so not every time, but most.  Anybody have any ideas? We have not installed the CL14 update because this issue is not listed as being resolved. And frankly the update process is a PINTA.

I've searched several forums and have found nothing.

Actually, the update process for CL14 is fairly pain-free. Also, this is a problem with the way the phone handles the screen. As a short term fix, if the phone locks up like that, slide the keyboard open. That should allow you to hit call and answer the phone.

Second, CL14 probably does help with this issue, as it is in general much more stable.

Third, the current rumors state that 2.1 will be out in the next month or so. As I've personally used the 2.0.1 firmware before, I can say with certainty that it is much better. Usage as a phone, especially, is way improved over the 1.5 we're currently running.

Hope this helps, and let me know if you've got any more questions.

I have had this phone for 2 days and have had the problem regularyl.  I have hung up on recuiters and now can't speak to them by calling them back.  Is there really no better solution than sliding the keyboard open?  If so it seems that I will need to return this phone immediately.  Thanks for any additional info.

Never had this problem with either the stock CJ05 or CL14 or any of the custom kernels. Seems more like someone changed some setting or installed some other app that is causing the issue.

Okay, ditto for me on this one...

My impression is that the Moment's WORST feature is as a phone, so if you want this device primarily as a voice call unit, then you're likely to be disappointed.  And, yes, we all look toward a Utopian 2.1 future!

What the User Guides and online chat are missing is an overall description of "How to Use the Moment for Voice Calling".  For instance, it took me two weeks to stop pressing END (red key) to wake up my phone when it rings - it is my first impulse to want to see the caller ID before answering, but (of course) this just kills the call.  I am brought low by yet another technology marvel that makes me a fool doing the simplest tasks.  Doing what comes naturally is often wrong and I still often fail to answer calls, dial digits during calls, avoid accidental conferences, etc.

BTW, I think it also behaves worse when another app is active (think Sprint Nav!) and the local phone operation becomes too slow for the network (e.g. time-out) and ongoing telephone tagging is the result - in this case, I always text the caller back and explain that I am not in a voice coverage area...

Hi:

I bought my Moment in mid-December and continued to have the problem even after the CL-14 in mid-January. I called Sprint and had them replace my phone.

On my original phone, I would frequently get calls and no matter how many times I pressed the receive call button, it wouldn't respond.

With the new phone, I still have to press the button several times but it eventually responds. Hoping for a fix with 2.1.

I was (and probably will) start a thread in the rant section stating pretty much the same thing.   There are a few fun games on here, a few useful apps, Youtube looks good, surfing the web is good, but the Moment SUCKS AS A PHONE.

I agree about some of the querks....especially complaints that I sound like crap or the speaker phone echos....

One thing I will say is that I have had the same "can't answer" problem.  Like someone else said....this is a computer...sometimes it needs rebooting (I reboot at least once a day).  I ralely have problems but I will say that some apps can cause wierd things to happen.  One game...everytime I play it, after playing my data network is gone and I can only make calls no data and signal on the meter shows nothing.....reboot....all is good!

Watch the apps and don't always blame the Moment!!
