So the battery has finally been able to reach 100%, but it still does the occasionaly in/out battery charging before it finally settles down and charges like it should.  I've noticed that I've no longer got the option to mount my SD.  What do I do now?

i had that problem too.  just go to settings/applications/development, and make sure "USB debugging" is unchecked.  Then try to plug your phone in.  If that doesnt work (mine didnt), shut your phone off, take the battery out, take the memory card out, then put it all back together and turn it on again, and then try plugging it in again.  At that point, I had the option to mount the SDcard.  Kinda seems weird I guess, but it worked for me.  If it doesnt work for you, maybe you have to reinstall drivers.  Hope it works for you though!

Thanks GST!  I was in Recovery mode trying all the different mounting settings in there, installed an app that forces SD mounting automatically when connected to USD...all with no luck.  Thanks for pointing out a setting I've only read about once, but didn't even think to look at.  I don't know why installing this ROM changed that, but it's working now.

Then again, had you read the post on the simplest step of all, this would be a moot point.
Also, my original question wasn't answered. Maybe it has somewhere but i still am getting really frustrated. I have the stock DD03 update from sprint. When i copy the noobnl update and go to the recovery mode it loads the update.zip and then it fails to update. Do i need to load a custom recovery? or can i use the stock one? I have tried for the last half an hour or so to follow the directions as laid out before me by those much wiser then I. but i still seem to fail. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Yes you need a custom recovery, it took me a while to figure it out but the standard recovery doesn't read the custom files.

Do i use the samsung update app to install the custom recovery? Does it have to be part of a kernal? Can i keep the stock and install a custom recovery? I guess the real question is how do i do it?

Pardon my ignorance. I would like to root my phone. I have upgraded to the stock Sprint Android 2.1 update and installed Joey Krims Recovery already and installed live wallpapers, so I'm learning thanks to all of your posts. Will putting Joey Krims a2.1 root v7.zip on the sd card and installing from there wipe everything from the phone or will this keep everything I currently have including apps and settings and allow root? I've spent a lot of time setting up the phone and would hate to find out the hard way.

Part 2 of my question: everyone talks about backing up but I have not found much of an explanation of how to do so. I understand you can back up your apps to the sd card, but how do you backup your settings, contacts, etc?

I backed up my apps to the SD card, Google does our contacts automatically, but I didn't need to...everything was the same afterwards.  I still need to learn how to use Apps2SD to realize the full benefits of this ROM.

Finally found a way to get my phone rooted and your rom was the first I tried. I gotta say, excellent work. It is def. One of the fastest. Any chance you'll push one out with a black notification bar?

So, long story short...I've had this ROM and have been using for months with success, even went in and uninstalled more random files and apps from another thread explaining what each one does.  Anyways, so I tried to do the apps2sd that is built into this ROM and either I did it wrong or I hadn't placed my apps in the right place.

The first time I reset the phone it just kept looping and wouldn't start like normal.  After some playing around, clearing delvik, reinstalling apps2sd along with the cache and default one on the list of three programs, it finally fired up.  Apps we're on my phone at all anymore, my widgets did little black boxes saying the links we're broken, so I decided I'd wait till I read up on it more.  I decided to basically flatten and reload my phone back to fatcory by using the Sprint 2.1 updater to get rid of basically everything I've ever done to the phone.

Got it back to 2.1 (nonrooted) and the recovery screen is different now!  I'm trying to reload noobnl's rom again and setup my phone the way I had it (before my failed apps2sd attempt) and I can't even get the ROM to be recognized.  Instead of the writing being green, it's blue now.  Every time I try to apply the .zip from SD it tells me the file has to be named update.zip and it's signature verification failed.  I renamed noobnl's file to update and tried it again, this time saying it was finding, opening and verifying update package...only to have it say the signature failed again.  At the moment I have a terribly blah phone and can't seem to figure out how to install this ROM...what am I missing here?

Sorry for the false alarm...forgot to root first!  I've gotten so used to seeing the same screens from hitting the Volume -, Talk and End button (or using the quick boot app) that I forgot this basic step.  Dee dee dee...sorry people!

Now I just need to see if anyone is willing to hold my hand for this apps2sd installation.  I don't want to go through today again because I missed a simple step and the writeup for the whole ext2/ext/3 etc stuff is literally making me glaze over in fear!

So I have installed joeykrimDEO3-recovery and joeykrim-v7-root and I'm running Calkulon's rom.  So how do I install noobnl's 2.1 rom?  Do I place this rom in my binary file and flash it? Also do I need to install root file again?  I'm still new with rooting and don't want to mess up!  Thanks.

2.1 is old news bro Smiley  He's up to 1.5.6 now, runs awesome!  http://forum.sdx-developers.com/roms/noobnl's-dd10-rom/

Just download the file onto the root of your SD card, reboot into recovery and install.  Since you've got a different ROM and kernal running now, I'd suggest to take the time to backup your apps, download the OLD Sprint updater and reflash your phone back to the factory 2.1, basically making your phone brand new from the box.  Better safe than sorry for 10 minutes of your time vs the potential weeks of headaches you may get from loading one custom ROM atop another.  Just my .02

Okie dokie!  lol   Wish me luck, I'm downloading the files now and will flash in a minute.  Thanks for your help and the SDX link.   UPDATE - I flashed the latest recovery file and then installed noobnl's ROM and WOW what a difference!  The 1st thing I noticed was the snappiness in how it goes from page to page or app to app!  Much quicker!  And its not loaded up with any bloat.  No themes, but thats fine with me.

His ROM's are really an all-in-one update.  When doing my first rooting and installing live wallpapers intimidated me at first, it's nice that Wallpaper, Apps2SD and Wifi Tether being built-in (along with other things I simply don't understand) took away my fears of screwing that up myself.

Install a program called Quick Boot...it's a very simple, one-touch way to reset, get into bootloader, and recovery mode.  After that, reboot into Recovery Mode, File Browser, system/, app/ and start deleting apk's (and their specific odex) of apps you no longer want.  There are threads floating around on here and SDX about what can safely be removed...email.apk, nascar.apk, etc etc. if you want more than what Noobnl has removed already.  I've deleted things like keyboardslidecounter, email, gmail, moxier and a handful of others just to make room.

Thanks for the info.  I'll check that out because I've always thought Moxier was a waste of space for sure.

After that, reboot to your desktop.  Goto Menu, Settings, Applications, Manage Applications and then delete the names from the apps list to make sure they're 100% gone.  For some reason some of them are still listed there, but they show as being 0.00 in size.
